Kyle to sign new contract
Kyle Lightbourne will remain in charge of the Island?s national football team for at least another year, can reveal.
According to reliable sources, Bermuda Football Association (BFA) executives have extended the former Coventry City striker?s initial short-term coaching contract for another 12 months.
When contacted yesterday BFA technical committee chairman Jon Beard and coach Lightbourne both declined to comment, the latter only confirming he had yet to sign on the dotted line. Lightbourne, however, is expected to officially sign a new deal when his current contract with local football?s governing body expires at the end of the month.
It is anticipated BFA officials will go public once affiliates have been notified of the extension to the coach?s current contract.
Lightbourne has made no secret of the fact he was interested in continuing in his current post.
The former UK pro striker, who played for nine clubs in 11 years in the UK, succeeded Kenny Thompson as national coach last September.
Under Lightbourne?s watch, the national squad have so far compiled a record of one win, one draw and three losses.
Bermuda?s next assignment is against the visiting Manchester City Youth Academy at the National Sports Centre in June.
The squad are scheduled to begin preparations for City?s arrival next Monday at the National Sports Centre.
