Kyme is on a high as he heads for Doha
Fresh from his first ever victory over Bermuda's number one ranked squash player, Gary Plumstead, in front of a packed crowd at the Devonshire squash club last Friday night, Nick Kyme flies off today in high spirits to compete in the Quatar Open in Doha - his second event as a professional.
The 22-year-old, who is ranked 170 in the world, does not have an automatic place in the first round however, and will have to complete at least two rounds of qualifying before earning a spot in the main draw.
Kyme is unfazed though, and admits his confidence has skyrocketed since his win against Plumstead.
“I feel I am playing very well at the moment,” he said.
“It was such a relief to at last get that victory over Gary and all week since then I have felt great. I'm moving well and hitting the ball really solidly so I feel ready to go away.
“I have been made well aware that the first few months on tour are tough because you have to start with such a low ranking and constantly have to go through the hassle of qualification.
“But even if I lose in the qualifying rounds I get points and I'll start inching my way up. Once I get in and around the top 100, life starts to get easier.
It is just a matter of gritting your teeth and grinding out the initial stages.
“Everybody on tour, no matter what their ranking has gone through it and I will have to do my time as well.”
