Kyme leads the CAC charge

World number 73 Nick Kyme will lead Bermuda?s top squash players at the CAC Games in Colombia this week ? with coach Ross Triffitt suggesting yesterday that a medal was not beyond the realm of possibility.

The four-man team ? consisting of Kyme, former pro James Stout, Michael Shrubb and Mel Caines ? have been training throughout the summer on the sauna-like courts at the squash club in Devonshire, preparing for what will be their second CAC Games.

The schedule of play in Colombia will stretch all of them to their physical limits, with the first week likely to see them playing two matches a day ? singles and doubles ? and second being the start of the team competition.

While the others will be happy just to get through their first round matches in the singles, Kyme is expected to make it to the latter stages, where depending on the draw he may ultimately have to face the number one seed and world number 49 Eric Galvez of Mexico.

?A lot will depend on the draw, but I would imagine that Nick would be pretty disappointed if he does not get to at least the quarter or semi-finals. He could go all the way if he plays his best, but a lot will depend on how he feels both mentally and physically in that first week, with the doubles going on as well.

?We?ve got a good chance of medalling in the doubles with Nick and James, but in the teams there a quite a few countries with a good chance and it is difficult to say where we might finish.

?We came fifth last time on El Salvador so it would be good to improve on that if possible. Mexico and Colombia are probably going to be the strongest and after that we should be in the mix with some of the other teams.

?I?m pretty happy with the side we?ve got and how hard they?ve trained. We have had junior camps taking up the courts through much of the day, so they have had to squeeze in their either first thing in the morning or late at night.

?It?s been hard but hopefully all the work will yield some good results.?
