Kyme?s Canada move paying off
Nick Kyme won his first competitive squash game for seven months at the Saskatoon Open in Canada recently as he began life as an overseas pro.
The Island?s top-ranked player has moved to a Toronto training base and started a new era in his career with a 6-11, 3-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-6 victory over Robin Clarke of Canada.
Kyme, however, was then beaten in the second round by eventual tournament winner Tommy Berden, ranked 34 in the world, 11-7, 11-6, 11-3. But he was still delighted with his first-ever win in the main draw of an event.
After fears his game was becoming stilted in his native Bermuda due to a lack of playing partners, Kyme moved to Toronto to train with Mike Way, coach of perennial world number one Jonathon Power.
?Even after a day with Mike I felt my game had improved,? said Kyme, who heads to Albany on Thursday for the next leg of the pro tour.
?Mike has been brilliant but there are also a lot of great guys to hit with over here. I have been working on some technique things but also some mental aspects of my game.
?I think this is the right move for me.?
