Lambert defends crown
Play gets underway tomorrow in the annual Bacardi Seniors Open tennis tournament at Pomander Gate Club with the finals scheduled for next Saturday.
Entries are down on last year but a number of the Island?s top veteran players will still be among the field.
In the men?s singles, David Lambert, president of Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association, will be defending his crown as the number one seed while second seed is Earl Leader who was defeated by Lambert in last year?s final.
Eldon Daniels and Wilfred Gonsalves are seeded three and four respectively.
Leader and Daniels, meanwhile, will try to defend their men?s doubles crown as the number one seeds with Arrigo Merlo and Mark Melvin ranked second.
Entries for the ladies? events are surprisingly low.
Jo Tucker is the number one seed and defending champion though she may be tested by second seed Laverne Stowe whom she beat in last year?s final.
In ladies? doubles Barbara Lambert and Stowe are seeded one as they seek to retain the title they lifted a year ago.
Seeded two are Tucker and Gill Butterfield.
