Leaders let rip against hapless Eagles
Despite this comprehensive victory at White Hill Field, visiting St. David?s probably left the ground kicking themselves for not at least reaching double digits, such was their dominance.
Coach Wayne Henry likely chided his players for not taking full advantage of their inept opponents and scoring more than the four goals they netted in the second half after taking a 4-0 lead at the interval.
Division leaders St. David?s pinned the bottom club in their half for the majority of the second half but countless misses by Figre Crockwell, Anthony Burchall and captain Angelo Cannonier enabled the home side to escape an even more severe beating.
Going into the fixture in first place but tied on 28 points with second-placed Paget, the Islanders embarked on a goal spree that was led by Landro Minors who netted four times while further tallies came from Kijuan Franks, Anthony Burchall, Dejaun Paynter and captain Cannonier who banged home five the previous Sunday.
It proved to be an easy day for the St. David?s defence, playing without key injured defender Ankoma (Toast) Cannonier, as they easily dealt with a jaded Eagles attack that showed little firepower although midfielder Stevie Burrows worked hard to get passes to his front-line.
St. David?s had strength in midfield where Ottis Minors was a constant provider of defence-splitting balls for his forwards who spent much of the time running offside.
Southampton Rangers 3
St. George?s Colts 2
Starting the day in third place, just three points off the lead, the East Enders were dismantled by the home side at Southampton Oval.
It was a Donnie Charles hat-trick that tore the visitors apart, his first two goals coming early in the game.
But the visitors pulled one back through Ernest Signor before Charles responded with his third from the penalty spot.
With his team trailing 3-1, Keenan Burchall got the second for St. George?s but Southampton?s defence were able to hold firm and earn maximum points.
Social Club 2
Hamilton Parish 0
Third from bottom Social Club got two goals from Haile Matthews to fend off a challenge from second from bottom Parish at Bernard Park.
