(after extra time)

A firmly headed goal by Raymond Beach after 108 minutes at Devonshire Rec. last night ended Wolves' run as Martonmere Cup champions while putting Cougars in the final for the first time. The game ended at 12.15 this morning.

Beach rose majestically to head home a fine cross by Heys Wolffe to give a courageous Cougars a victory they deserved after staging an impressive fight back.

They trailed 1-0 to a Mark Ray goal after 21 minutes but Cougars would not lay down and die.

They got the equaliser after 60 minutes when centre-back Shawn Smith converted a penalty after Kori Goddard was fouled by Wolves' defender Jamel Simmons and the clincher came when Cougars' young scoring duo of Wolffe and Beach teamed up to shatter any hopes Wolves had of retaining their trophy.

Dennis Brown's men could have won it at the end of regulation time but Peter Sampson put his shot just wide of the post from 10 yards.

N.Village 2, Dandy Town 2

(Village won 5-3 on penalties)

A missed penalty by Darren Simons enabled North Village to earn a place in the final in the earlier match-up.

Town had enough chances in the first half to put their opponents away.

They did manage to take a 1-0 edge after 52 minutes through skipper Lionel Furbert but allowed Village to come back into the game with momentum afterwards and dominate play during the later stages.

Village got their deserved equaliser after 84 minutes through substitute Jawan Thomas who rifled the ball home from 20 yards to send play into extra-time.

Town were reduced to 10 men after 108 minutes when midfielder Brendan O'Riordan was ejected for a second bookable offence but shortly afterwards Paul Cann put them 2-1 up from a goalmouth scramble.

Simons twice went close for Town but Village refused to throw in the towel and hard-working midfielder Jamal Boyles delivered the equaliser to send the game to penalty kicks.

Jason Davis, Tafari Outerbridge, Jawan Thomas, Shannon Deshields and Michael Hansey netted for Village while Lionel Furbert, Cann and Seyoum Tuzo scored for Town. The unfortunate Simons missed.
