One minute he was on, the next he was off.

Kyle Lightbourne just cannot seem to get his Macclesfield Town career off the ground.

The Bermudian was on the bench for last night's visit to Shrewsbury Town in the English Third Division and with his side leading 1-0 was brought into the fray at the start of the second half.

However, the home side equalised after 70 minutes and with four minutes remaining Lightbourne was replaced.

It is unclear whether the player, who had just returned from long lay-off due to an ankle problem, had aggravated the injury or whether manager Dave Moss was settling for a point and wanted to shore up the defensive areas of his side.

Meanwhile, Shaun Goater will more than likely renew his acquaintances with Costa Rican frontman Paulo Wanchope on Boxing Day when Manchester City take on West Bromwich Albion in a Division One top of the table clash.

Goater will run out with Darren Huckerby against Crewe today, but the former Leeds and Coventry player is suspended for Wednesday's festive game and so Wanchope, who returned to action for 15 minutes last week after undergoing a cartilage operation, is expected to take his place.

“Darren will miss the West Brom game and that will hand an opportunity to someone else,” said manager Kevin Keegan. “He has mainly been booked for dissent which is disappointing.”
