History has a funny way of repeating itself ? just ask Wolves.

After winning a first ever Dudley Eve Trophy in 2001-02 the Devonshire club failed to win another match for the remainder of the season and were eventually relegated from the Premier to the First Division.

Six days after winning the First Division Dudley Eve title ghosts of the past would come back to haunt as fellow promotion contenders Paget brought Wolves? celebrations to a grinding halt at White Hill Field yesterday.

Goals either side of the half from Yusaff Pitt and Dion Stovell was enough to keep Lions on course for promotion while Wolves? hopes suffered a setback.

And after dominating nearly the entire opening half and missing a golden opportunity from the penalty spot, the visiting team had nobody else to blame but themselves.

Conversely, Paget took full advantage of their limited chances and punished their opponents for some slack defending at the rear.

But it all could have been so different had Wolves cashed in on some creative approach work and skipper Vince Minors equalised in the 40th minute from the penalty spot.

Instead, all the hard running of Keemo Smith and brothers Torry and Jason Davis went in vain while a subdued Minors placed his spotkick against the woodwork.

And to suggest Wolves had things all their way in the first half would be a gross understatement as Paget created one single chance going against the grain, and scored.

Taking matters into his own hands after 18 minutes, Paget?s veteran striker Pitt outpaced the Wolves? defence down the left side, cut inside and beat his nephew David Trott standing slightly off his line with a low drive from an angle.

It was Lions first and only sniff of goal for the entire half.

Yet Pitt?s strike did little to rattle Wolves? confidence.

With Robert Thomas and Jermaine Douglas ? son of former Wolves defender Kirk (Dasher) Douglas ? keeping things reasonably tidy at the back, the front trio of Minors, Anthony Davis and Smith continued chiselling away at the heart of the Lions defence.

First Wolves? playmaker Smith broke free of a marker and ran into space down the left side. But with only ?keeper Trott and a defender to beat, Smith?s cross in the middle was snuffed out.

Minors then turned on the magic and threaded his way through four defenders before producing a dive that just might have earned him a nomination for an Oscar.

Wolves then suffered another setback when Jamen Mallory limped off just before the half with a groin injury.

It might have been an omen for things to come.

Paget came out a completely different bunch in the second half and gradually they turned the match on its head ? especially when player/coach Marvin Belboda leapt off the bench in the 55th minute.

Belboda?s intervention seemed to add more punch in a Lions frontline that used the wider space at White Hill to their advantage and always looked dangerous on the counter-attack.

The veteran forward prompted Trott to make an excellent save between the post minutes before laying the foundation for his team?s insurance strike.

Not to be outdone Paget custodian Tariq Smith positioned himself well at the opposite end to turn away Jason Davis? firmly hit drive on the run.

But with the momentum now swinging their way, and Wolves? chances in front of goal reduced to a trickle, Lions delivered the .

Winning a corner down the right side, Belboda?s well-flighted cross in traffic fell to the boot of Stovell who effortlessly caressed the ball across the goal line and secured three more crucial points in the bag for the Ord Road club.: T.Smith, L.Stevens, K.Outerbridge, E.Hunt, A.Anderson (E.Clarke, 65 mins), D.Stovell, L.Hypolite, N.Simons, Y.Pitt, K.Smith (capt), D.Bailey (M.Belboda, 55 mins): D.Trott, R.Thomas, J.Mallory (R.Ford, 43 mins), H.Burrows, K.Smith (S.Lee, 70 mins), J.Douglas, J.Davis, T.Davis, K.Smith, A.Davis (T.Hill, 55 mins), V. Minors (capt).: D.Bailey (Paget); J.Davis, T.Davis (Wolves): L.Hypolite (Paget); K.Smith (Wolves)Joe Pimental.
