Livingston say 'no' to a deal for Nusum
After failing to turn up for a trial at Scottish soccer giants Rangers, John Barry Nusum has been told he is not wanted by their Premier League rivals Livingston.
Mystery surrounds the exact reasons why Wolves' star striker did not arrive at Ibrox as planned on Monday and instead ended up down the road with the Lions.
But unless he has other irons in the fire in Britain it appears he will be returning empty-handed.
Nusum, who has had an outstanding season for Furman College in the USA, was one of a number of trialists Livingston took a look at this week.
But neither Nusum, Nigerian Christopher Ohen or Argentinian Nicolas Mazzina, are said to have impressed boss Jim Leishman.
"We always have players coming in and out of the club and these are some of the guys we have been looking at," the manager told The Scotsman newspaper. "But for the moment we will not be pursuing our interest in them."
Meanwhile, Rangers, who had made preparations for Nusum's arrival, have expressed disappointment at his no-show.
Tommy McLean, head of youth development at the Scottish club, told The Royal Gazette yesterday: "The situation is that he did not arrive here. He was supposed to come on Monday but did not turn up."
While former Bermuda national coach Clyde Best denies he was involved in setting Nusum up with the trial, McLean yesterday said otherwise.
"Our manager, Alex McLeish, was recommended him (Nusum) through Clyde Best and the manager said he would have a look at him," McLean revealed.
"But he did not arrive and we have since heard he has gone to Livingston, along with another player (Stephen Astwood)."
McLean said he had not received word why Nusum did not arrive in Glasgow but said the player had burned his bridges as a result.
"We were prepared to have a look at him but if his agent is playing one (club) off against the other we will no longer be interested," he said.
