Local ace `tough enough'

James Collieson (right): Takes on big-serving American Taylor Dent this evening.

Bermuda's Davis Cup coach Steve Bean believes James Collieson is tough enough for what will arguably be his biggest test on a tennis court tonight.

Bean, who coached Collieson and Jenson Bascome during the recent Davis Cup competition in the Caribbean, said: "James has just come back from St.Vincent playing on the hard courts so he is going to be match-tough.

"But he hasn't played on clay much at all. So the question is whether he can adjust quickly enough."

Bean said playing Dent was entirely different to the kind of players that Bermuda came up against in the Davis Cup.

"The level of players here is going to be a step higher than what he experienced in St.Vincent," he said.

"But James is feeling good, he is fit and is mentally ready for this year. We just wish him the best.

"In the past he hasn't played as well as he would like to so I am just hoping he can give a good account of himself."

While no-one expects Collieson to win, Bean said it was not beyond the realms of possibility.

"He has nothing to lose, there is no pressure on him, so he should just go out there and enjoy the match," he said.

"His hands are going to be full. But there's no pressure, anything can happen on the tennis court. I always like to think you have a chance."
