Logie disappointed with total but still upbeat
Same shortcomings, same result was the succinct assessment of Bermuda?s performance by coach Gus Logie after another sizeable defeat yesterday.
Logie, who watched a large portion of the game from the warmth of the pavilion as a brutal north wind continued to buffet the south-east of England, was in typically candid form as he stressed it was about time the team?s senior batsmen began to take more responsibility and not sell their wickets so cheaply.
?Yet again we just didn?t score enough runs to be competitive,? he said.
?Most of the players got themselves in but just didn?t go on to get the big score we needed. I keep stressing the need for more concentration and more discipline but as of yet we have not seen the players respond.
?Saying that though it was our first game and it was good for the players to get out there and get used to the cold because it has been quite a shock for us coming from the heat of Trinidad straight into this kind of weather.
?I expect us to get better as the tour progresses and we now have an opportunity against Lloyds to show that we are capable of adapting quickly to the conditions.?
Logie said he was impressed with the way Sussex went about chasing their small victory target and added that he hoped his players had watched and learned from their approach.
?They did very well ? they went out there and took their time, didn?t give anything away and ran very well between the wickets,? he said.
?In fairness I don?t think our bowlers did that badly and it was good to see the likes of Ryan Steede finding some sort of form and rhythm.
?We picked up a couple of early wickets and if we had managed to maintain the momentum we could have made life difficult for them.
?But I thought we sat back a bit after that and they were very comfortable by the end.
?Overall though I?m really looking forward to this tour. We have four games left to play and I?ll be looking for some real progress in all areas.?
