Dandy Town 2 North Village 1

Not even a one goal loss to hosts Dandy Town could mute the wild celebrations of the colourful North Village following at St. John's Field yesterday.

After starting this match minus several of their key players, it became apparent with each passing moment that Village were just content to play out this match which was of relatively little significance to the new league champions.

And after referee George O'Brien - who surprisingly had an uneventful afternoon out in the middle - blew the final whistle, Village were finally presented with what they had waited 23 years to acquire - the coveted League trophy.

Village, sporting five teenagers who all gave good accounts of themselves, took a deserved lead in the 26th minute through Marlon Dill.

The youngster scored from the tightest of angles after Town ‘keeper Antoine Lightbourne failed to hold on to Randy Spence's inviting cross from out on the left flank.

The match went a little flat until Kevin Hurdle awoke the crowd with a thunderous close-range shot that should have levelled the scores moments before the break.

Village threatened to increase their lead after the restart, with young Domico Coddington, Kevin Jennings and half-time substitute Tafari Outerbridge all coming agonisingly close. Town's Brendan O'Riordan also prevented a goal-bound shot as the visitors mounted an all-out assault.

In response, Town's David Burchall, Seyoum Tuzo, Hurdle and defender Pernell Douglas all kept Village ‘keeper Dwayne ‘Streaker' Adams alert, though the former should have found the mark after Lionel Furbert's cross from out on the left side. However, his shot left a lot to be desired.

In the 66th minute, the Hornets equalised after the Village defence conceded an own goal and super-sub Janeiro Tucker duplicated his late scoring heroics of midweek, hammering home the winner from close range after 76 minutes.
