Marshall on course for treble

Bermuda's Blake Marshall will attempt to defend his title as well as clinch his third major club victory of the year when he meets American Robert O'Brien in the junior final of the Annual Men's Invitation Golf Tournament at Mid Ocean Club today.

Marshall, who plays off a plus-one handicap, continued his all-conquering form in the semi-finals yesterday when he defeated Duncan McMartin five and four while O'Brien, a nine handicapper, beat Peter Smith four and three.

Earlier this year Marshall won the Mid Ocean Club championships as well as the President's Cup.

Today's senior final of the Invitation will be a repeat of last year's match as defending champion Tommy Stearns plays Lowell Watson.

Stearns squeezed by Paul Evans one-up while Watson defeated Lee Patton four and three in yesterday's semis.

Top teenage golfer Jarryd Dillas, fresh from his triumph last weekend with partner David Smith in the Bermuda Four Ball Championships at Port Royal, continued his good form on the fairways when he returned to Bradenton Academy in Florida this week.

Without a practice round under his belt, Dillas represented his school at the Florida State High School Championships at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucia and in windy conditions fired rounds of 70 and 71.

That left the 17-year-old Bermudian in a tie for third place in the individual standings in a field of over 180 players.

His one-over-par total of 141 left him five shots behind winner Martin Ureta.

Dillas' performance along with that of team-mate Chanin Puntawong led Bradenton to a second place finish in the team championships.

The Blazers totalled 589 for the two-day tournament, finishing 12 shots behind champions Saddlebrook Prepatory. Teams consisted of five players with four scores to count.
