Mocklow misses Open chance
Despite a superb second round, Bermuda amateur golfer Anthony Mocklow failed to qualify for this week?s British Open Championships at Royal Troon when he competed in the final qualifying tournament in Scotland over the weekend.
Mocklow, a former club professional who regained his amateur status four years ago, finished with an even par score of 71 in his second round at the Glasgow Gailes course.
His score was the third best of the day.
However, after a first round of 79, his total of 150 left him eight shots shy of the qualifying mark. Three English pros, Simon Dyson (137), Paul Bradshaw (141), Andrew Willey (141) and English amateur Anthony Millar (141) were the only four players to qualify at the Glasgow Gailes tournament.
Eleven players competing at three other Scottish courses also earned their Open ticket.
?I hit the ball well on both days, but finally learned how to play on day two,? said Mocklow from his home in southern England yesterday.
?My score was the third lowest in the field, so I had a decent chance. I just made a few too many mistakes on the back nine of day one.
?I got caught in a gale on the afternoon of day one and that didn?t help. But on the second day I was very pleased with the way I played, especially as I was three under with three to play. At that point I had to go for it, and I finished with three bogeys.?
