National team pair get defending champs off to a winning start
Warwick 109
St. David?s 113-3
A disappointing start to the season saw Warwick ? returning to top flight play after a long stint in the First Division ? pay the price for showing up with just ten players against St. David?s at Lord?s.
The home team coasted to a seven-wicket victory with opening bowlers Arthur Pitcher and Jevon Foggo combining to take six wickets while medium pacer Sammy Robinson snatched two.
Pitcher claimed three for 26 from seven overs with one maiden while Foggo claimed three for 29 from 10 overs with a maiden.
Robinson, who has now finished school abroad and intends to play a full season with the East Enders this year, finished with two for 14 off 2.5 overs.
With this trio in fine form, Warwick could only manage 109 with the runs coming off 30.5 overs.
But for a heroic batting performance from John Parfitt, coming in at number nine and top scoring with 47, it would have been an even more miserable day for the visitors.
Parfitt and number seven bat Lamar Richardson rescued the team from 36 for seven, adding 72 for the eighth wicket with the latter playing a supporting role by chipping in with 15. The only other batsman able to offer any sort of defiance was opener Chris Douglas with 14.
St. David?s needed just 19.4 overs to reach their winning target despite losing their first two wickets on 27 and 47.
Shea Pitcher was undefeated on 23 while Justin Pitcher also contributed 23. Opener Sammy Robinson followed on 21 and his opening partner Chris Foggo struck 12.
Lamar Richardson was the top bowler for Warwick with two wickets for 31 runs off five overs.
