Nelson double lifts Clearwater
Clearwater Middle School were crowned Over-13 National Schools football champions last Saturday thanks to a narrow 2-1 victory over Whitney Institute.
In blustery conditions at the National Sports Centre, Whitney put Clearwater under enormous pressure during the opening exchanges. But against the run of play Clearwater took the lead through Aaron Nelson, who sidefooted home from the edge of the six-yard box.
Nelson doubled his side?s lead minutes later with a spectacular volley from outside the box.
The sides were evenly matched in the second half and with ten minutes to go Whitney converted a penalty to set up a thrilling finale.
But Clearwater held on through the game?s pulsating final minutes to get their hands on the trophy.
Saltus Grammar School won the Under-13 final, beating Warwick Academy 3-1.
