One of the Island's most popular and longest-running road races is about to get a facelift.

BermudaJOBS.com, a local recruitment management company, have taken over what was formerly known as the Evian ? and before that Perrier ? 10-mile race, due to take place later this month.

And while race director Simon Turner will retain many of the event's long-standing traditions, maintaining the same route and attractive prizes, he's also looking to spice up the event.

One addition to the race, due to take place on Sunday, March 21, will be the Charity Chase starring the Island's top distance runner, Kavin Smith, a multiple winner of the 10-miler which has been on Bermuda's road racing calendar for more than 20 years.

Smith has agreed to set off 10 minutes behind the rest of the field and then attempt to reel in as many of the runners as he can. BermudaJOBS.com will then donate five dollars to a children's or youth-based charity for every person he catches.

The race has historically served as a warm-up for the May 24 Marathon Derby, with many of the leading Derby contenders testing their fitness over the distance.

Last year a field of 149 took part with overall victory going to Nick Despres, who was visiting from the Bank of Bermuda's Guernsey office. He placed ahead of the first local male, Sylvester Jean-Pierre.

Anna Eatherley took female honours with Lynn Patchett close behind.

Up for grabs again this year will be the David Saul Trophy for first local male and the MAAC Trophy for first local female as well as various age group prizes and several draw prizes.

Other new prizes are being introduced for the most improved male and female runners ? those who show the biggest improvement on the time they recorded in the same race last year.

Entry forms can be picked up at Sportseller in Hamilton or at the BermudaJOBS.com offices at 20 Church Street.

The deadline for entry is Thursday, March 18 but late entries can be submitted the following day on Friday, March 19 at the Church Street offices where race numbers will be distributed.
