Olympic coaches to stage swim camp

Bermuda?s junior swimmers will receive elite coaching in the next few days from top Olympic coaches.

Personnel from the renowned Peak Performance Swim Camp ? headed by Nick Baker and Lois Daigneault ? will conduct a five-day training camp from February 14 to 18 at the BASA Pool for which 45 young swimmers are registered.

Numerous participants have opted for additional individual private lessons with Baker and Daigneault and swimming authorities here see this as a glorious opportunity for juniors to advance in the sport.

?Usually to be coached at this level our swimmers have to travel great distances and at significant expense.

?In this case, the coaches are coming to us and working directly and intensively with us in our home pool,? noted Bermuda?s national swimming coach Richard Goodwin.

?I expect to see significant and measurable improvement in our swimmers? technique, performance and dedication.?

Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) president Ian Gordon said the national sports governing body was honoured to secure the services of Baker and Daigneault who coached at the 1992 and 1996 Olympics respectively.

It gives Bermudian swimmers, he noted, ?an opportunity to be exposed to the best of the best?.
