Olympic countdown is on

In exactly 100 days, Patrick Singleton will step out in his shorts to began his Olympic adventure and, as is his trademark now, confidence is high.

After a gruelling summer of training with the British team in Bath, England, including a punishing weightlifting schedule, Singleton has returned to the ice claiming to be in his best possible shape.

And although the massive carrot of the season is the Games in Torino, where Singleton will likely don similar shorts to the ones that now hang in the Olympic Museum for the opening ceremony, the ambitious winter Olympian is excited just ?one race at a time?.

Singleton has been itching to return to the ice, desperate to see if his summer training will pay dividends and if he can move up from his perennial 15th place finishes to some in the top ten or, and it is a dream he believes he can make reality, in the medals.

?I have put in so much work this summer,? said Singleton. ?I just can?t wait to get back on the ice and compete. My driving is fine so, again, all the work has been on my start. It is so important and that is where I need to catch up.

?If I can take time off at the start, I will be able to take time off my whole run.

?I have worked so hard and I want to now test myself and see if I will reap rewards for all I have done.

?There is going to be some good competition this season and I am determined to work my way to the top.?

Even though his sponsors, family and supporters are already thinking about the Olympics, Singleton is trying not to think too much about it yet, especially as he hasn?t even qualified.

?I am feeling so good at the moment I am just thinking about the next race and winning that,? he continued. ?And that is how I want to go all the way through this season. The important race for me is the Challenge Cup, that is where you try and get to the big event and I have done enough each year to get to the World Championships and it is the same criteria to get to the Olympics.

?I am working towards that and I want to get some wins along the way.?

The other big moment for Singleton this season is the practice time he will get on the Cesana Pariol track near Torino.

There will just be one week of training this campaign where all the athletes attempt to cram in the practice rides and commit the course?s twists and turns to memory.

?It?s important to try it out and learn as much from it,? he added. ?Apart from the Italians, not many of us have had much time there so we all want to race it as much as possible so we can try and put ourselves in the best possible position for the Olympics.?
