Onions put dent in Dogs' title challenge
Two dropped points by leaders Tuff Dogs on Wednesday night breathed new life into soccer's Commercial A Division.
Robin Hood are now five points behind but with a game in hand.
Tuff Dogs looked anything but championship material as they took on MR Onions, who on last week's showing might be a better team than Montserrat ? they only conceded eight goals in their friendly against the national team rather than the 13 let in by the World Cup opponents on Sunday
In-form Onions dominated the game, postponed from Saturday, and should have come away with more than a point.
Against the run of play Carlos Lopes managed to scramble the ball over the line after Onions failed to deal with a Dennis Mussen corner in the 13th minute.
Onions were quick to reply though as two minutes later they were awarded a free kick just outside the box. It was was chipped in to Robin Perry who swivelled and hit a sweet shot past Ian Morrison at the near post.
Onions continued to press with Morrison pulling off some excellent saves.
All other Division A games were postponed due to Saturday's wet weather. Key West Rangers and BAA turned up for their game at St. John's Field but referee Wayne Campbell failed show.
In the B division the same thing happened as a large Vasco squad journeyed to Somerset only to find that referee Gregory Simons was not there, causing the game to be postponed.
Ironically both Vasco and BAA are in the bad books of the BFA this week.
BAA player Teekai Rawlins has been suspended for the rest of the season for fighting during the game against Devonshire All-Stars on November 29. He will also be on probation for the rest of next season.
Mariners player Jose Vieira was given a year's suspension and an additional one year's probation for behaviour designed to bring the game into disrepute after making contact with an official in his club's FA Cup game against St. David's on February 1.
The league also released official tables this week (see Scoreboard).
Two crucial games were played in the B Division with the top three sides involved on Saturday.
Valley tightened their grip on the championship with a 3-0 demolition of Somerset Bridge through goals by Chevone Armstrong, Kevin McNeil and Ryan Roberts.
And in-form Devonshire Lions are in touching distance of Dockyard Falcons for second place after beating them 2-1 through second half strikes by Derek Weeks and Philip Clarke. Falcons replied with a late goal from Roger Williams.
