Onions rally after early setback

With just three games remaining neither table-toppers MR Onions nor second-placed Lobster Pot showed any sign of nerves on Saturday with both getting maximum points.

Onions still lead the table by two points with a decisive match against rivals Pot still to come.

Onions overcame BAA 4-1 but made it difficult for themselves after ?keeper Chris Hewson rushed out to head the ball but misjudged the bounce and gifted it to the opposition?s David Roache who put his side ahead.

Flapping by the BAA ?keeper from a corner, however, allowed Onions to equalise when the ball dropped at the feet of Colin Keane.

Just before the break Garret Mulvin executed an acrobatic overhead kick at the front post to make it 2-1 for Onions.

With the wind at their backs, Onions took a grip on the game in the second half and added a third when Greg Fraser fired an unstoppable 30-yard shot past the keeper who didn?t even have time to move. Gary Fyfe made it 4-1 with a late penalty following a hand ball offence.

Meanwhile, Pot are just two points behind after beating Devonshire Lions 3-1.

Michael Johnston put away a tidy through ball while Joe Carolo finished a Jameel Effendy cross. Pot dominated but blew chance after chance until sub Troy Berkley finished a goalmouth scramble. Lions? Dwayne Bean netted a late penalty after a Darrell Mellor hand ball.

North Village brushed aside Somerset Bridge Peskies with goals from Alan Smith, Maceo Dill, Ross Lambe and Stephen Coddington. Bridge hit back via Paul Humphries.

Key West beat Valley with a lone Webster Mills strike in the first half after good build-up play while Robin Hood and Tuff Dogs endured a 0-0 stalemate.

The B Division was less one-sided this week with only Dandy Town Roots racking up a big win with a 7-1 drubbing of Prospect/Fire. Darron Simons grabbed a hat-trick, Michael Wells got two and Walter Musson and Shannon Gilbert one each while Nigel Richardson replied for Prospect/Fire.

A Lionel Cann hat-trick helped second-placed St. George?s keep up the pressure on Dandy Town with a 3-2 win over Pest Control. Jay Matthew scored two for Pest Control.

Third-placed Vasco came from behind to beat Boulevard who were 1-0 up at the break from a Shane Grant goal. But Vasco stormed back via goals from Jason DeCouto, Michael Bean and Dana Martin.

Somerset Extros started two men down against Dockyard Falcons but should have been 3-0 up within the first 20 minutes with some incisive counter attacking. Edgar Smith got Extros started followed by a sweet long range effort from Antwon Darrell. Dwayne DeRosa grabbed a second-half hat-trick for Falcons but further strikes from Smith and Darrell kept Extros ahead although his team resorted to time-wasting tactics later on.

Prison Officers went down 3-2 to Hamilton Parish despite two Dwight Richards? efforts.

Bottom-placed Wolves picked up a 3-0 walkover win against Devonshire All-Stars who forfeited the game in favour of a club function.
