Open's double injury blow

Injuries to two of the Island's top players have forced them out of the Argus Open tennis tournament.

First to withdraw because of a back injury was Stuart Smith, one of the Island's top doubles players. He was seeded number one in the men's open doubles with Mark Cordeiro.

Smith's withdrawal has forced Cordeiro to dip into his 'reserve' list and call on veteran Eric Klementz, absent from the tournament scene for more than a decade, to fill the void.

Also ruled out is Chris Harris, who pulled a hamstring during his rain-interrupted marathon against John Johnston on Sunday.

Harris was second seed in the men's open and number one in the mixed doubles with Wendy Gelhay. He was also seeded second with Roger Marshall in the men's open doubles.
