Opportunities just aren't coming a-knocking

I don't quite know how it has happened, but in four and a half games for Coventry I still haven't had a genuine chance to score.

Not a clear-cut chance, not a 50-50 chance, not even a glimpse at goal ? nothing has come my way and nothing like this has happened to me before in all my years in the game.

It's one thing not scoring goals when you get the chance, it is another thing not even getting the chances.

I am not quite sure how it has happened. I have got into positions but it seems every time I need that final pass to get an opportunity, something happens.

The pass isn't quite right, it is intercepted or something goes wrong to deny me a sniff at goal. A small portion of blame could be put on my team-mates, maybe they haven't worked out yet how I play and what positions I get in ? but only a little portion, the rest is just bad luck.

The manager has been very supportive but it is frustrating because I came here for just a few games to do a job and the main part of that job is to score goals, something I haven't done yet.

All the chances and half-chances have been falling to my team-mates and strike partners which is why I wasn't that surprised to be on the bench against Plymouth.

I came on as sub, but although I think I played well, I still didn't really get a chance to score.

In the four games I started, I think I have done pretty well, particularly the first two. Against West Ham, the strike partnership wasn't really that effective in the final third and against Wolves I thought I had an average game, not particular good, not particularly bad.

I don't know what the boss is going to be thinking for the next match, but I know it is going to be a pretty strange affair.

It is the last ever game at Highfield Road and I am glad to be invited to the party although it won't mean anywhere near the same to me as the last game at Maine Road for Manchester City did.

I think if we were safe and had definitely avoided relegation, then the gaffer might drop me, a player who has been here just six weeks, for this one in favour of someone who has been a bit longer. It would be a nice farewell for the guys who have played here for a few years.

But we are not safe, so I think he will have to go with the strongest team because three points are going to be vital with only two games left and us only two points clear of the relegation zone.

Dele Adebola, who I came on for as sub on Saturday, has a bit of a groin injury, so I may be in for him but we will have to wait and see.

It should be a tough game against a team like Derby but the gaffer should have no problem motivating us.

I'm sure his team talk will be something along the lines of 'let's make this a memorable game for the fans, this is a chance to leave your names in the history books by winning the last one and giving the fans a good memory of the final day at the ground'.

And I still feel that we are going to stay up this season. Although we are all gutted about the way Plymouth got an equaliser on Saturday in a game that they never looked like scoring in, the mood is still quite upbeat here and positive.

I just don't think we are going down, although we still have two hard games left to play, particularly the last one away at Crewe.

And what then happens at the end of the season is still up in the air.

I haven't spoken to either Coventry or Reading about anything, I want to get this season out the way first, then I'm going to worry about that sort of thing.
