Outerbridge earns Academy spot
Bailey's Bay's talented teenager Stephen Outerbridge is set to broaden his horizons at the Shell Cricket Academy in Grenada next month.
Bermuda Cricket Board of Control president Reggie Pearman yesterday confirmed that the youngster had been accepted at the Academy.
"I am extremely pleased with his demeanour - especially after having discussions with him last night," said Pearman. "We are definitely looking to him for the future and we wish him well."
Outerbridge was understandably over the moon after hearing the news.
"I feel that it is a honour and a privilege to have been accepted at such a prestigious cricket academy where some of the guys who I will meet will go on to represent the West Indies Test team in the future," he said. "I will be looking to learn a bit more from them about the game and bring the knowledge back home."
Outerbridge is due to depart for Grenada on May 13 and returns to the Island on August 15 - just in time for Bailey's Bay involvement in the final round of the Eastern Counties on August 31.
Costs for the venture have been offset thanks to the Americas Regional development fund.
Former BCBC president El James was instrumental in getting the ball rolling by forwarding the youngster's name during last year's visit to Bermuda by Americas Regional cricket development officer Michael Seepersaud and former West Indian wicket-keeper Jeffrey Dujon.
"Youth development was one of the areas that we were keen on during my time as president," said James. "They (the Academy) have spots available very year, and through the West Indies cricket board we should be able to send at least one youngster annually."
The overseas excursion follows a recent trip to the Port Elizabeth Cricket Academy in South Africa for St. David's' young wicketkeeper/batsman Chris Foggo.
