Dion Stovell single-handedly destroyed Robin Hood?s FA Cup hopes at Southampton Oval yesterday.

Returning from a two-match self-imposed exile, Stovell, a thorn in Hood?s side throughout, netted a superb brace and had a hand in his team?s other two goals.

Jumping all over their Commercial rivals from the opening whistle, Lions were denied a goal seconds into the match when Edison Clarke?s effort was disallowed.

But nothing would deny the home team in the 15th minute when Stovell waltzed by three defenders and buried his shot from above the penalty area to give Lions a deserved lead.

Undaunted, Hood drew even minutes later when they were assisted by some poor defending on a corner-kick before completely stunning their First Division rivals by taking the lead from a free kick ten minutes prior to the half.

The joy, though, would be short-lived as Lions? player/coach Marvin Belboda tapped home Stovell?s cross in the box to send the teams into the dressing rooms deadlocked at two goals apiece.

While Hood did well to keep pace with their more youthful rivals in the opening half, Paget blew this affair wide open when play restarted and never took their foot off the throttle.

And again Stovell was the driving force behind the men in green and gold.

With Belboda doing all the legwork on this occasion, Stovell easily slotted home the former?s pass into the box to make it 3-2.

Then, as he had done so all afternoon, Stovell sped by the Hood defence, cut inside the middle but was sent crashing to the canvas to earn Lions a penalty.

Enwar Hunt made no mistake, burying his spot-kick to put the match well beyond a Hood side, reduced to playing with ten men near the end of this cup tie when forward David Wolfe picked up a second yellow card.

First Division Social Club saw off their Commercial League opponents thanks to three first-half goals in a lively FA Cup first-round tie that ended in acrimony.

BAA finished with ten men because Sean Hill got himself sent off three minutes from time for directing foul and abusive language towards referee DeRoy Butterfield.

The finger-wagging Hill continued to argue with the referee after being shown the red card and had to be hauled away from the official by his team-mates.

Hill then responded to taunts from the Social Club bench by repeatedly showing them the middle finger.

Social Club took the lead in the 13th minute through Haile Mathews and then effectively sealed their place in the second round with two more goals in the five minutes before half-time, from Dean Bean and Erick Dunkley.

The First Division side were content to sit back on their lead in the second half and attack BAA on the break. They almost grabbed a fourth when Bean broke clear, only to hit the goalkeeper with his fierce shot.

But BAA continued to improve as the game went on and Martin Jones was unlucky not to pull a goal back when his spectacular volley bounced out of the inside of the post 17 minutes from time.

The Commercial outfit?s pressing was rewarded with a fine goal in the 82nd minute. Brendan Shevlin made a well-timed run behind a square Social Club back line and kept his composure to convert with a low, left-footed shot.
