Paris faces frustrating finish

A frustrated Alan Paris was sailing "round in circles" over the weekend as light winds continued to delay his push to the finish line on the final leg of the Around Alone race.

And last night it seemed increasingly unlikely that he and his boat, BTC Velocity, would pass by Bermuda at some point today when had hoped to wave to friends and family off St. George's before continuing the final miles of his round the world adventure to the finish in Newport, Rhode Island.

The Bermudian sailor's wife, Becky, said she spoke to her husband yesterday when he reported having made "little progress" over the last two days.

"He's very frustrated and finding the going very slow," she said.

"He had hoped to pass by Bermuda tomorrow and perhaps finish by Wednesday or Thursday. But I don't think that's going to happen.

"However, the weather can change very quickly, so it's difficult to make any kind of prediction."
