Peppers meet Village in semis

Hamilton Parish will have to avenge their defeat to North Village in last year?s FA Cup final one round earlier than hoped after being drawn to play each other in Sunday?s semi.

The draw, which took place at Captain?s Lounge on Reid Street yesterday, also pitted two Premier Division teams against each other in the form of Devarr Boyles? Dandy Town and Andrew Bascome?s Devonshire Cougars.

Parish, of course, believe they were robbed in last year?s showdown at the National Sports Centre ? when they lost two-nil to Village ? after a goal was disallowed because of a disputed offside decision.

Despite being predominantly made up of Commercial Division players, the Hot Peppers have once again punched above their weight in the Cup this season and they will relish the opportunity to get stuck into their high-flying opponents ? who are gunning for the triple crown after already securing the league and Friendship Trophy double.

?We?re just going to go out there and play like we have done all season,? said Parish coach Ernest (Joe) Lathan who was present at the draw.

?When you play against teams like Village you just have to think that it?s just 11 against 11 and anything can happen on the day if you play well. We?re not worrying about them at all ? we?re just focusing on what we have to do.?

Village?s combative midfielder Keith Jennings meanwhile said his side were looking forward to the game and were hoping to put the finishing touches to what has been a remarkably successful season.

?It should be a good game and we cannot afford to relax no matter who we are playing against,? he said.

?We?ve just got to keep working hard and putting the time in in training and hopefully we?ll get the rewards. We?ve enjoyed this season because it has been coming together gradually over the last few years.

?Under the new coach (Dwayne Adams) things have certainly been a little different from what we were used to in that he gives us a lot more responsibility and lets us take control. But it?s definitely worked which is the most important thing.?

In the women?s semis, meanwhile, Lady Rams will take on Lady Cougars while PHC Zebras play Dandy Stars.

This year is the FA Cup?s 50th anniversary and the venues for the semi-finals ? BAA and Southampton Oval ? have been deliberately selected by the Bermuda Football Association to reflect the fact that BAA were the inaugural winners of the Cup after beating Southampton Rangers in the 1956 finale.
