Teresa Perozzi was left considering her boxing future after what she described as a "shocking" points loss in her first pro bout on home soil.

Perozzi ? the Island's only professional boxer ? was beaten by Monika Nunez by a unanimous decision in their super-middleweight match-up on Saturday, with two judges scoring the bout 40-37 and one 39-37 in favour of the girl from the Dominican Republic.

The home fighter was visibly stunned by the decision and even a full ten minutes after her four-round loss, she was almost speechless when interviewed by

Even when she did regain her composure, she spoke only in hushed tones.

"I just can't believe it, I am shocked," said Perozzi, clearly doing her best to fight back the tears.

"I'm just shocked. That has to be the wrong decision. She couldn't handle my power ? she couldn't deal with it.

"There was no doubt in my mind that I won the fight. If the crowd saw something different, then they can tell me, but I had her backing up all the time ? that was my win.

"I can't believe this has happened ? I am shocked."

When asked her what the next step in her fledgling career might be, Perozzi was unable to offer an answer.

"I just don't know if this is for me," she said hesitantly.

"This wasn't an option, it wasn't meant to be like this. I don't know what I am going to do now. I am going to have to do some thinking after this."

From the first bell of the four-round contest, Perozzi was able to trap her experienced opponent against the ropes. Although this often left the home fighter open to taking the odd shot, she looked to be in control.

Nunez did connect with two or three good shots, but the bout remained very much in the balance throughout.

Perozzi did seem to lose a little momentum as the fight wore on, but once the final bell had sounded it wasn't clear who the winner would be.

Although a number of aficionados around the ring saw it as a Nunez win, the home crowd clearly didn't share this view and the boos that greeted the official announcement were evidence that the partisan crowd thought their girl had done enough.

"This is a disgrace," said Forty Rego, one of Perozzi's coaches who was keen to voice his views after the bout.

"I don't think this is right at all. That was our win, that was our fight. Something is not right here.

"Everyone could see Teresa was in control."

Troy Darrell, the former world number five middleweight who was also working Perozzi's corner, shared this view.

"Teresa had that girl backing up all the time," he told

"This girl has had a few fights but Teresa made here look like she didn't know what she was doing.

"This things happen in boxing but it is tough for Teresa. She has decide what to do from her ? it is never an easy road in this sport."
