Perozzi ready for Lady Ram
Bermuda's only pro boxer Teresa Perozzi takes to the ring on Saturday as the world number five.
The super middleweight, whose ranking rose following victory over Elizabeth Kerin at Fight Night, takes on Laura (Lady Ram) Ramsey, in the Rumble on the Rock at the Number One Shed.
Perozzi's fourth pro fight tops a card that includes the super heavyweight rematch between Freeman Smith and Sharieff Wales and a one-off appearance in the ring for Bermuda's only Olympic medallist Clarence Hill - against his son Jamar Gibbons - as well an eight-man amateur team of youth boxers taking on a visiting team from Atlanta.
Although Perozzi isn't getting as much time as she would like between bouts - her last fight was just five weeks ago - she is confident she will be fighting fit when that first bell goes.
“In some ways it is not ideal fighting again so quickly,” said Perozzi, whose performance against Kerin was a vast improvement from her previous outing, a defeat to Monica Nunez at CedarBridge Academy.
“But I haven't really stopped training so I should be in great shape for it.
“I had a couple of weeks straight after where I only trained a couple of times a week but I have kept up my running so I should be in good shape when the fight comes around.”
And the tight schedule will help rid Perozzi of any pre-fight nerves.
“Last time I fought I was really nervous because it had been such a long time since my last bout that I didn't know how I would perform,” she continued.
“I really didn't know how I'd react when I got back in the ring but this time I won't have any such problems.
“I'm looking forward to fighting again so soon - it is a good sign that boxing here is on the up.”
And Perozzi is delighted with her number five ranking - and a final end to the controversy of her last outing on the canvas.
Ratification of her standing means Kerin's post-fight outbursts about cheating judges were not backed up by an official complaint.
“They made a lot of noise at the time but they never officially disputed the result which means she probably realises now it was right,” Perozzi added in reference to Kerin's claims that the points victory was a ‘hometown decision'.
“A lot of decisions are disputed and a panel has to review the tape but that hasn't happened here and now I am up to five in the ranlkings.”It isn't just a number to me, it really means something for me, and I hope, for Bermuda.”
