Perozzi ready to rumble

Teresa Perozzi will put her world title belt on the line tomorrow night at Clearwater Beach against American challenger Roselin Morales.

Event organisers yesterday unveiled the final card for the "Rumble on the Beach" at which Perozzi, Bermuda's first world champion, will top the bill.

The main event will see Perozzi ? the North American Boxing Council world champion ? taking on Morales over ten, two-minute rounds, while other well-known local fighters scheduled to be in action include Leo Richardson and Kejon Trott, the latter the 19-year-old Arizona Golden Gloves champion.

The 35-year-old Morales from Allentown, Pennsylvania, arrived in Bermuda yesterday afternoon and will make her first public appearance at today's weigh-in by the Flag Pole on Front Street, which begins at 12.30 p.m..

The American massage therapist was once a full-time bodybuilder, but made the switch to boxing in 2000, before turning pro three years later.

She is undefeated in five professional fights, winning three on points and two by technical knockout.

Perozzi has lost two of her six professional bouts, though she won her last fight in February against unfancied American Martha (Sexy Mex) Deitchman, prevailing on points after eight rounds.

"Rumble" organiser Jan Martin revealed yesterday the venue at Clearwater Beach could cope with between two and three thousand spectators and she urged the public to come out and support Bermuda's sole professional boxer.

"We hope it will be a good night and we can get a good crowd in," she said.

"We've got eight confirmed fights on the card, with the possibility of a ninth, so it should be a fantastic evening of boxing."

The gates at Clearwater open at 6 p.m. with the action expected to start an hour and a half later.

Ringside seats cost $50, regular admittance $40, while all those under 15 get in for $20.

Tickets can be bought at Sports R' Us, Secrets and Hair Fantasy or in advance at www.ucgboxoffice.com.
