Sullivan Phillips has accepted "full responsibility" for Birmingham Bullets' European exit.

The Bermudian basketball star missed three out of four free-throws at the death as Bullets lost 84-85 to Dijon in the European Champions Cup on Tuesday.

Although both teams finished with a 6-4 record, the French went through to the last 24 by virtue of a better basket difference.

Phillips has been absolved of blame by his coach and team-mates, but remains deeply hurt at "not coming up with the goods".

"You can point all the fingers you want but, at the end of the day, those fingers should point at me," he told the Birmingham Post. "Had I made two of those four shots then we would have won and gone through to the next round.

"The coach and the guys have been very supportive and up-beat and it's all nice dandy to say in other games I helped the team get this far - it was Tuesday that counted."

Re-living his horror moments, the 23-year-old admitted: "I wasn't in control. The one free-throw I made, it felt like I made it.

"The others, it was as if my mind was elsewhere.

"It was a lack of concentration on my part."

Bullets now have to focus on domestic hoops and moving off the bottom of the British Basketball League Championship table.

Last night they were at Newcastle Eagles and tonight they host Brighton Bears at the Aston Event Centre.

Phillips said: "I feel, with all my heart, that if we play like we did against Dijon in the remainder of our BBL games then we will win around 25 of them, guaranteed.

"We know we have to be consistent, execute and keep our concentration.

"We've got to get a killer instinct. Some people, like Michael Jordan, are born with it, others learn it - and we are trying to learn as a team.

"We have talent. When European teams looked at our BBL record they probably laughed and thought we'd get spanked.

"But, take it from me, Dijon and the others soon went 'whoah . . . we don't want to play with these guys'."
