Police fight night revived
Police Boxing Section are to revive their once highly-popular Evening of Boxing at the Fairmont Southampton Princess Hotel.
The black-tie affair, which often sold out weeks in advance, was last held in 2000.
Once reserved for men only, the occasion will extend invitations to women this time around.
Scheduled for Saturday, September 27, the fight night will include, among others, a number of local police officers with various levels of boxing ability, including complete novices with no fight experience.
But chairman of the organising committee, Craig Morfitt, noted that an invitation had also been extended to the Denver Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police boxing teams.
"The Denver PD have indicated that they would like to bring some junior boxers and we plan to match them against local juniors," said Morfitt."
"In an effort to help with the development of amateur boxing in Bermuda, we are hoping to be able to provide some quality overseas opponents for some of Bermuda's up and coming fighters," added Morfitt.
"Having won gold medals in the novices section of the Caribbean Championships, boxers like Trace Easton and Sharieff Wales now need to test their skills against Open class fighters before moving on to compete in other championship tournaments."
Note: Other local boxers interested in appearing on the fight card should call Morfitt on 299-4343 as soon as possible.
