Premier teams show class
Powerhouse North Village were forced to sweat it out during a goalless opening half against Commercial Division Lobster Pot at Bernard Park, but any dreams Pot had of holding on were soon shattered in a second-half blitz.
Although Village were the better team early, they were unable to break the deadlock by the interval with Pot denying them with a tremendous display of fight and determination.
Ralph Bean Jr. finally got Village off the mark with a strike after 66 minutes and the senior team put the result out of reach six minutes later with successive strikes from Tavari Outerbridge after 72 and 73 minutes.
Two further goals were to come from substitute Zane Hendrickson and Robert Wilson while Pot got a consolation tally right at the end when Martin Godley converted from the penalty spot.
Though competitive in the first half, when they conceded only two of the six goals, Commercial Division minnows Island XI had no chance of upsetting Premier Division Cougars in this FA Cup elimination round clash at BAA yesterday.
The only satisfaction Island got from the contest was coming close with a clear-cut scoring chance five minutes from the end when they were already behind by a decisive margin.
Cougars grabbed the initiative early with a goal from Ajami Gibbons after 19 minutes.
After a period of resistance from the Commercial Divisioners, they stretched it to a two-goal margin with a strike from Kori Goddard three minutes before the half.
Jason Simons in the Island goal was kept busy when play restarted, but once substitute Korvon Tucker made it 3-0 after 76 minutes it was virtually one-way traffic for Cougars with Simons unable to relax.
Further goals were to come from Mark Steede after 81 minutes, Gibbons got his second five minutes later while Tucker also added his second two minutes from the end.
At Bernard Park, Premier Division side PHC Zebras coasted to victory at the expense of First Division Social Club with Raynel Lightbourne netting twice.
He opened the scoring after 20 minutes and cracked home goal number two eight minutes later. The contest was virtually decided three minutes before the half when Aquino Grant put the Zebras 3-0 up with a fine effort.
Five minutes after the re-start Shawn Russell made it 4-0 while Duval Wilson snatched the fifth and final goal three minutes from the end.
At BAA Field, Boulevard of the Premier Division tore apart Commercial Division side Tuff Dogs scoring twice in the opening half and five more times in the second.
Angelo Simmons and Shaki Crockwell led the onslaught with two goals apiece.
Skipper Melchisedec Gibbons netted the opener after nine minutes but the Blazers had to wait awhile for the second with Simmons converting a minute before the half.
Danny Faria in the Dogs? goal was kept busy throughout and kept his team from conceding far more goals, while Jeff Franklin up front for Dogs needed to be watched closely by the Blazers? defence because of his speed.
But the Blazers were in full flow once Simmons made it 3-0 after 61 minutes.
This opened the gates for further goals from Crockwell who got the fourth after 69 minutes and the fifth after 85 minutes. Simmons? second and the team?s sixth game three minutes from time while substitute Mikre Pace struck the final blow a minute later.
This match-up between First Division teams saw home side Eagles recover from being behind 2-1 at the half to respond with five goals and come away comfortable winners at White Hill.
Dwayne Tavares gave Parish a shock 2-0 lead before Matthew Hollis pulled one back for Eagles.
When play re-started Eagles flew away with honours thanks to goals from Darren Dowling (2), Jermaine Davis and Jermaine Salaam.
