Premier title race hots up
Premier League title contenders North Village, defending champions Devonshire Cougars and Dandy Town will all look to keep pace with current leaders Somerset Trojans when league action resumes tomorrow.
Trojans presently head the pack by three points over second-placed Village while Cougars remain four points adrift and Hornets five with six rounds of matches remaining in the 2005-06 campaign.
And with little separating the top four clubs in terms of both skill and points, it?s still anybody?s guess which team will walk away with the spoils come end of season.
The same applies in the First Division where only six points separate leaders St.David?s from sixth-placed X Roads Warriors.
In tomorrow?s Premier clash of the day, PHC Zebras find themselves in desperate need of gaining ground on the leaders.
Zebras take on beaten Dudley Eve Champions Cup finalists Village at Southampton Oval in a match neither can afford to lose.
Meanwhile at Malabar, Cougars should come away with a big victory over winless Ireland Rangers while Trojans are favoured playing at Somerset Cricket Club over struggling Boulevard.
Town, likewise, should come away victorious over Devonshire Colts but they can ill afford to allow the Orangemen to set the early tempo as was the case earlier this season at St.John?s Field where Hornets had to dig deep to come from behind and eventually secure a one-goal victory.
Elsewhere, First Division leaders St.David?s are favoured over Social Club at Lords while a Paget victory over Hamilton Parish in the first match of a double-header at Lords would keep things very tight at the top of the table.
Another key match-up with promotion implications is the one at the Den where newly crowned Dudley Eve champions Wolves seek to get back on track after suffering a 2-0 loss to Paget last weekend.
Wolves, who ousted Social Club from the First Division Shield in midweek, entertain fast-rising Southampton Rangers who appear to be going from strength to strength.
St.George?s Colts should also remain thick in the promotion hunt as they play away to hapless Somerset Eagles at White Hill Field while X Roads also seek to gain ground on the lead pack on their visit to Police Field to meet Prospect.
