Premier's praise for 75th Race Week
Premier Jennifer Smith said Government fully supported sailing in Bermuda at a ceremony to mark the end of the 75th International Race Week.
Speaking to competitors and Royal Bermuda Yacht Club members at a prizegiving on Saturday night, the Premier said the RBYC should be congratulated for their achievements.
"To the officers and members of the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and to the Race Week committee, in particular, congratulations on this special 75th anniversary of the first Race Week," she said.
"What a milestone. I know that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to repeat year after year the successes associated with this race.
"I speak for all of Government in expressing appreciation for your sterling efforts to bring sailing enthusiasts together by hosting such a fantastic event for both visiting and local participants."
The Premier went on to express her backing for the sport.
"I have to state that Government fully supports sailing in Bermuda. Not just because we believe that sailing is an enjoyable sport but because it also teaches character and valuable life lessons," she said.
"Government's commitment to sailing is most evident in our partnerships with the Bermuda Amateur Sailing Association.
"Our White's Island Summer Sailing programme, which the BASA operates is one of our most successful summer activities. The eight week programme is fully subscribed every year and has produced many outstanding sailors.
"Like you, we are committed to preserving and enhancing this cherished part of our heritage."
