President Caisey quits troubled Bay
Bailey?s Bay Cricket Club president Gary Caisey has resigned from his post amid an ongoing storm of controversy, can reveal.
It is understood Caisey resigned last Monday after only one-year in the top post at Sea Breeze Oval.
The embattled executive cited work commitments as his reasons for relinquishing the job, although understands a decision earlier this season to suspend several of the club?s key senior cricketers did not go down well with players among a host of other unresolved internal matters.
Senior player Dennis Trott received a six -match suspension while Corey Hill and Jermaine (Sox) Warner were each slapped with a two-match ban for an incident which occurred at the end of last season.
The players were slapped with a range of punishments by club management following an incident last August 30 which saw the First Division trophy ? which Bay won ? tossed into St. George?s Harbour amid post-Eastern Counties celebrations.
Skipper Jermaine Outerbridge, meanwhile, escaped with probation.
A special meeting at the club has now been called for July 1.
?Due to business commitments and disciplinary problems within the club I have decided to resign and take care of my personal business,? Caisey confirmed yesterday.
Caisey insisted his decision to resign stemmed solely from personal matters and not because of the disciplinary committee?s findings and subsequent decision to dish out punishments for those involved in the aforementioned incident.
?As far I was concerned the matter was resolved. The disciplinary committee did what they had to do and that was it as far as I was concerned,? he said.
However, one club member, who spoke to on condition of anonymity, disagreed.
He argued: ?There are many issues which need to be dealt relating to our cricket programme in general. There are also other issues with regards to club regulations which were violated.?
According to the spokesperson, Caisey probably made the right decision in resigning from the top post.
?He doesn?t want to deal with the issues involving club rules and I think it was probably in his best interest to resign,? he added.
