Prison Officers can't keep Robin Hood under lock and key

Though the bees did not make their entrance until Sunday, evidently Bernard Park was also "abuzz" with activity on Saturday as defending Commercial Division A champions Robin Hood issued a stern warning to all opposition after they swarmed all over Prison Officers beating them 13-0.

Derek Stapely led the way for the Merry Men, notching one of two hat-tricks on the day.

Allen Mooney, David Wolfe, Brian Fubler and Jar McCabe all chipped in with two strikes apiece, while Oliver Caruso and second half substitute Craig Smith rounded out the rout with single tallies.

At nearby St.John's Field, newly promoted St.George's All-stars staged a spirited second half comeback which ultimately fell short as Key West Rangers held out for this 4-2 win.

Leading 3-0 at the break through first half strikes from Craig Critchlow (tenth) and Clevelyn Critchlow (19th and 27th mins), Rangers appeared to have the match safely in the bag.

But St.George's had other thoughts in mind and began their fightback in earnest shortly after the restart with Lionel Cann pulling one back in the 55th minute.

Cal Rayner then brought All-Stars to within a goal of Rangers' lead seven minutes from full-time to make it 3-2.

But any remaining thoughts of completing the comeback were dispelled as Rangers' Sergio Griffin immediately responded by notching his team's fourth one minute later. All-Stars' Charles Steede was the sole player booked.

Also at Bernard Park, North Village Rams gave Vasco Mariners that sinking feeling with a 5-2 drubbing.

After Michael Bean (fourth min) had given Mariners an early lead, it did not take the home side long to bounce back with Troy Harvey equalising only three minutes later. Elliot Jennings then put Rams ahead 2-1 five minutes before the break.

However, Rams hit top stride and opened the floodgates in the second half with further strikes by substitute Ross Lambe (57th min), Kenny Thompson (65th min), while even `keeper George Hayward managed to get in on the scoring act by converting a 67th minute penalty. Mariners' Paul Frias had his name entered into the referee's book.

At BAA Field, two goals either side of the half saw Tuff Dogs sink their teeth into Lobster Pot 4-0.

Kevin Mooney (24 mins), Jason Floyd (80 mins), Jeff Franklin (84 mins) and an own goal by Pot's Richard Phinn saw Tuff Dogs romp to this easy win. Dogs' Deuntay Darrell was booked.

In the B Division, Kenny Dill also cracked a superb hat-trick as Devonshire All-Stars blasted Wolves Pack 5-2 at Shelly Bay Field. Former Devonshire Colts player Germano Botelho grabbed the other.

Wolves replied through Mandy Thomas and Kevin Astwood.

Over at Devonshire Rec., Prospect/Fire edged by Devonshire Lions 4-3 in an exciting contest.

Prospect prevailed through two strikes apiece by James Walters and Floyd Patterson, while Derek Wells and Raynell Richards replied for Lions.

During a see-saw battle at Somerset Cricket Club, Extros outscored visiting neighbours Dockyard Falcons 4-3 to get their season off to a flyer.

After Falcons had taken an early 1-0 lead through Terrance Corday (17th min), Extros stormed back with last season's top poacher Everette Wellman opening his 2002/03 account in the 27th minute.

But former Trojan Anthony (Small Berker) Burchall put the visitors back out in front in the 30th minute only for Extros to erase their lead courtesy of a Troy (Starsky) Thompson strike seven minutes later.

The teams were tied 2-2 at the half.

However, immediately following the restart, a Junior DeSilva tally saw the visitors again forge ahead.

But with ten minutes remaining in the match, Extros equalised via a Michael Corday effort before Wellman finally put the match beyond the visitor's reach by converting his second goal and Extros' fourth two-minutes from time.

Elsewhere, at White Hill Field, Somerset Eagles celebrated their debut among the Commercial ranks by edging out neighbouring rivals Valley 2-1 thanks to two strikes from Mark Bean. Valley's top poacher Kevin Isaac - though on the losing end - picked up where he left off last season by notching his team's only goal.

At Shelly Bay Field, PHC Raiders thumped Pest Control 4-1.

Michael Trott, Nelson Simons, Sammy (Snake) Swan and Chris Furbert Sr. all got the job done for the visitors, while former Zebra Troy Crockwell scored Control's consolation.
