Prospect lays down the laws
Two late goals by former Colts forward Jerome Laws saw Prospect steal a point from this First Division match-up at BAA Field yesterday.
Colts started the day with a one-point lead over Ireland Rangers and with the West Enders also being held to a 1-1 draw with Wolves, Colts remain at the top of the table. But they should have stretched that lead.
Laws' goals came after 78 and 86 minutes - the equaliser headed home from a John Richmond corner and coming after Prospect had fought back well to pin down a Colts' defence marshalled by centre backs McKonnen Hollis and Shannon Burgess.
Earlier, Colts appeared to be coasting to victory after taking a 1-0 lead through Joseph Butterfield after 19 minutes and stretching it to 2-0 after 55 minutes when Omar Ray netted.
Prospect battled hard to get back into the contest and when referee George O'Brien gave Butterfield his marching order for violent conduct after 82 minutes it opened the way for the equaliser with the Colts defence under pressure.
A week after beating previous leaders Ireland Rangers 2-0, Shannon Burgess wasn't happy with the result or his squad.
“To be honest I was terribly disappointed, both with the result and our overall performance. We played really well against Ireland Rangers in our previous outing and have to now strive to get back to that level,” said the veteran defender.
Wolves 1 Ireland Rangers 1
Two second-half goals saw the teams settle for a draw at Devonshire Rec.
Playing with a full squad for the first time in two weeks, Wolves went ahead through Vincent Minors after 60 minutes when he steered the ball home following a corner. But Rangers replied five minutes later when Trevor Corday blasted a screamer into goal from 20 yards after collecting a cross from the left.
Lloyd Telford came close to snatching all points for the West Enders but his blistering shot hit the post two minutes from time.

Even with veteran defender Neil Paynter opting to watch this game from the sidelines, St. George's coasted to victory at Garrison Field.
Spearheaded by two goals from David Signor, they took a comfortable 3-0 lead into the half and then blew away their opponents after the break. Also scoring were Loren Marshall, Jade Foggo, Brian Phipps, Sinclair Gibbons and goalkeeper Troy Hall (penalty).
