Quick 43 for Hemp

David Hemp scored a quick-fire 43 off 37 balls against Somerset in the English County Championship yesterday ? taking his first class average, for what has been a below-par season, to just over 30.

Hemp's county Glamorgan finished the second day's play at Somerset's ground in Taunton on 215 for 5 ? still some 115 runs behind the host's first innings total of 330 all out.

The young and inexperienced Welsh side have not been performing that well either, and are currently languishing sixth out of eight teams in the County Championship's second division.

The 35-year-old former England A lefthander has a career first class average of a shade over 35, though his inability to convert good starts into big scores this year has left him with only 694 runs, including one hundred and two fifties in 23 visits to the crease.

Hemp is set to join up with the Bermuda squad on their month-long tour of southern Africa starting in November.
