Rangers gain ground on the league leaders
In Commercial Division `A' action Key West Rangers gained ground on league leaders Robin Hood with a comfortable 3-1 win against MR Onions.
Rangers got off to a good start after Wayne Augustus found the target in the fourth minute. Joseph Weeks doubled the tally eight minutes later. Chris Flemming gave Onions a glimmer of hope midway through the half, but Armel Thomas put the match beyond their reach to score his team's third goal right on the stroke of half- time.
Meanwhile, at Wellington Oval, despite playing most of the second-half a player short after Jeff Franklin received his marching orders, Tuff Dogs still managed to take a bite out of Robin Hood in a 2-2 draw.
Tuff Dogs broke the deadlock through Duentay Darrel in the 63rd minute. Hood immediately responded via McCabe Jarlath four minutes later. They then went on to take the lead in the 75th minute via Derek Stapely.
But deep into injury time the Dogs were again unleashed, Darrel delivering the crushing blow with his second goal of the match.
At Bernard Park, North Village Rams continued their climb up the standings after they edged by team sponsors Cable and Wireless 3-2.
Former Bermuda international Kenny Thompson, opened Rams' account in the 25th minute while Kevin Grant made it 2-0 five minutes later. However, Cable and Wireless began a late rally, Marvin Hassan pulling one back for the visitors.
But Rams super-sub Ross Lambe was on hand to score their third in the 72nd minute, just moments before Craig Critchlow scored a second for the opposition.
At Somerset Cricket Club, PHC were brushed aside 5-1 by BAA Wanderers.
Martin Jones was the toast of the town for BAA after he found the back of the net four times.
Garry Stewart rounded off the scoring exploits for the visitors in the 66th minute, while Keith Bell replied for Raiders.
In the division's remaining match, Vasco Mariners got past Lobster Pot 2-1. After Jeremy Leslie gave Pot the lead in the 14th minute, two second half strikes from Mariners' Paul Frias and Scott DeSousa were enough to clinch the win.
In the `B' Division, St. George's Allstars continued to have things all their way, handing the visiting Dockyard Falcons a 7-2 defeat.
Charles Wade notched four goals, while Fred Hall and Andrew Richardson scored the remaining strikes.
Dockyard replied through Dennis Bean and substitute Charles `Buckjuice' Swan Jr.
Second placed Prison Officers suffered a humiliating 8-0 loss to Devonshire Lions to lose ground on the leaders. A match report was not available.
At Shelly Bay, Bermuda Pest Control exterminated Wolves Pack 6-1. Spurred on by an Anthony Francis hat-trick and further aided by two goals from Chris Davis and a lone strike from Ernest Spence, Pest Control had little difficulty getting by Wolves who could only reply through Horace Landy.
Meanwhile, Devonshire Allstars continued their climb up the table with a convincing 5-1 away win over Somerset Extros. Allstars' Kenny Dill capped off an outstanding performance by netting a hat-trick, while Jeff Richardson contributed a pair of goals. Everette Wellman scored Extros' lone goal.
In the Division's remaining fixture at Police Field, Prospect/Fire easily handled Valley International winning 4-1. Prospect's Theron Smith scored two goals while Andrew White and Darren Rathband each scored a goal apiece. Kevin Isaac scored Valley's sole strike.
