Rangers going for Knockout

Southampton Rangers will be out to prove their recent win over St.George?s was no fluke when they host the East Enders at Southampton Oval for the second time in three weeks tomorrow.

Last time the two Premier Division giants clashed, St.George?s? four -year league dominance over Rangers came to a grinding halt as the home team recorded a three-wicket triumph on Mother?s Day.

Lionel Cann inspired Rangers to their May 8 triumph over St.George?s, grabbing three wickets for 24 runs and belting 91 off 68 deliveries. Troy Hall topped the East Enders? batting with a typically patient 39 while skipper Gregg Foggo took four wickets for 33 off ten overs including four maidens ? the player?s second four-wicket haul in succession.

Now the two clubs will do battle all over again during tomorrow?s opening round of the Combined Knockout Cup.

A strengthened Rangers side, sporting four ICC Trophy squad members, remains unbeaten so far this season while their opponents are presently on a two-game losing skid.

However, St.George?s are no pushovers when it comes to cup competitions as they always seem to rise to the occasion.

?St.George?s always play hard and so we are expecting another tough match from them as usual,? said Rangers skipper Janeiro Tucker. ?We are just going to play our normal game because the monkey is already off our back.?

Rangers enter tomorrow?s clash overflowing with confidence, having trounced Western Stars by seven wickets at St.John?s Field in their previous outing.

?A team?s confidence is always going to be high after beating the league champions (Stars),? added Tucker, who stroked an unbeaten 52 and claimed figures of three for 28 in his team?s demolition of Stars.

?Right now we are playing good cricket and if we can continue to do this then I think we will be okay because everybody is confident at the moment.?

Elsewhere tomorrow, St.David?s should come away with a comfortable win over Cleveland at Lords while Stars should overpower First Division Warwick at St.John?s Field. Social Club are favoured over Leg Trappers at Sea Breeze Oval, Bay should get by Devonshire at Devonshire Recreation Club while Flatts face a tricky cup tie against Somerset at Somerset Cricket Club.

In remaining matches, Police host Willow Cuts at Police Field while PHC take on landlords Somerset Bridge at White Hill Field.

All contests begin at 11 a.m.

Western Stars skipper Hasan Durham received just a reprimand from a Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) disciplinary committee this week.

Durham was found guilty of committing a Level One offence under the Board?s new code of conduct. The veteran all-rounder was summoned before the committee for walking onto the pitch at Lords during the game against St. David?s on week two of the season to question an umpire?s decision.
