Ref abandons play after red card mayhem
Bermuda Football Association are set to investigate after the clash between Tuff Dogs and Key West was abandoned after 55 minutes following three dismissals.
With the score at 1-1, tempers flared on the Key West side over numerous disputed offside decisions and the game was at boiling point when Key West striker Paul Towlson and Tuff Dogs' Chris Pett became embroiled in a shoving match.
Referee Ralph Tumbridge said: "Towlson grabbed him around the neck and they went to square off. They both got red cards. When they were going off Towlson headbutted him in the face.
"Then Chris Pett's brother, Stephen, came over to get involved. I sent him off and abandoned the game.
"It was getting out of hand. Everyone wanted to beat Towlson up."
Tumbridge said the BFA would have to assess whether to let the game stand at 1-1 or simply cancel it and not allow the teams to get a point each.
BAA, meanwhile, enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win over 'A' Division new boys Island XI with Guisseppe Coco firing in from the edge of the box after some nice work from fellow striker Paul Colvin. A Martin Jones free kick was knocked to the back post by an Island XI defender to the unmarked Sean Hill who coolly slotted home. Tommy Gribbon rattled the bar in the dying minutes before Coco grabbed his second with a half volley from just inside box from a nice cross from Stevie Black.
Lobster Pot cruised to a 2-0 victory over Robin Hood at White Hill Field. A misdirected header from a Robin Hood defender allowed Martin Godley a breakway and he slotted into the corner. In the second half the Hood keeper could only parry a free kick which was gobbled up by Chukwoma Woods.
PHC Raiders finally overcame their bogey against North Village Rams with a 3-2 win. Tillman Darrell fired home a penalty after Rams' Maceo Dill was pulled down but Sheridan (Baldy) Ming levelled. Darren Francis came on and supplied for Ming to get a second. The same combination saw Ming complete a hat-trick. Darrell got one back in the second half but Raiders held on.
The game between MR Onions and Dandy Town Roots was postponed due to a bereavement in the Roots' camp.
In the 'B' Division, Somerset Extros continued their blistering form with the 9-1 crushing of Pest Control with Anthony (Berka) Burchall scoring one, Michael Bremar two and Rodney (The Key) Bascome a hat-trick after coming on at the half. Newcomer Mark Grant grabbed one in the second half and Troy (Starksy) Govia netted two.
Valley and Somerset Bridge battled to a 2-2 draw with Fitzgerald Williams and Jonathan Eve on target for Valley.
Devonshire Lions beat Boulevard 3-1 with Dwayne Bean, Shawn Showers and Shizaughn Smith scoring for the visitors and Jack Henderson netting Boulevard's consolation goal.
Devonshire All-Stars picked up an effortless three points when Prospect/Fire could not field a team. St. George's All-Stars also picked up a similar default win against Hamilton Parish.
The 'C' Division kicked off on Saturday with Wolves grabbing a 7-3 victory over Dandy Town at Shelly Bay despite gifting their opponents an early penalty, converted by Milfred Waldron. Shannon Tuzo replied for Wolves with a shot from 20 yards and Mark Tankard's free kick from his own half on the stroke of half-time gave Wolves a 2-1 lead. After the break Wylie Rudo scored from the half-way line and Ian Frith whistled in a shot from 25 yards for Dandy Town, but Wolves managed five second-half goals for a 7-3 victory. Horace Landy enjoyed a second half hat-trick while goals from Daniel Stovell and another from Tuzo completed the scoring.
Prison Officers came from 3-0 down to draw with Dockyard Falcons 3-3.
Dockyard led 2-0 at the half but were reduced to nine men midway in the second half after losing their keeper to injury and their captain Dwayne DeRosa to a red card after butting Prison Officers player Trent Rowling in the face. Officers goals came from Ryan Belboda, Reginald Pitcher and an own goal.
