Revs boss impressed ahead of cup clash

New England Revolution warmed up for Wednesday?s crucial CONCACAF Champions Cup quarter-final two-leg series against Costa Rica?s LD Alauelense with a dominant display against Bermuda on Saturday night.

And it was a performance that brought a huge smile to the face of Revs coach and former Liverpool utility player Steve Nicol ? one he hopes his charges can reproduce in another 48 hours time.

?I thought the most important thing for us tonight was to get together and play as a team because we?ve only had one game (against Bermuda?s Under-20 national team) which was the other night,? Nicol told

?So it was important for the lads to get reacquainted with each other and obviously we had to get used to the pitch which played really fast. It was important we played out here tonight so that we don?t come out here on Wednesday night and get surprised.?

Nicol was impressed by his team?s ability to spread the ball around as well as their lethal finishing.

?Overall I was pleased with some of the things we tried to do out there tonight,? he said. ?And I thought Clint?s (Dempsey) goal was first class. You can?t get a better finish than that.?

The Revs now have ample time to prepare for Wednesday?s clash against their Costa Rican rivals.

And Nicol is optimistic his team will be even more competitive.

?I think for the second game we will be more eager and hungry which is great. And hopefully we?ll come out and do all the right things,? he said.

The Revs close out their tour of Bermuda against Jamaica?s Under-23 national team at the NSC on Saturday night.
