Rhode leads to top sporting/cultural event for Bermuda trio

THREE senior school students have been representing Bermuda at the United States Scholar-Athlete Games in Rhode Island this week.

Nyisha Saunders and Mikkail Crockwell from The Berkeley Institute, and Jasmin Brunson from the Bermuda High School for Girls, along with Acting Education Officer for Physical Education and Health, Mr. Darrin Lewis,(pictured left) are at the 2008 United States Scholar-Athlete Games, organised and hosted by the Institute for International Sport.

Hailed by past participants, sponsors and the news media as one of the finest youth sports/cultural events in the world, the 2008 United States Scholar-Athlete Games, which started last Saturday and finishes tomorrow, features competitions and educational symposia on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.

The US Scholar-Athlete Games combine athletic, cultural and educational activities with the goal of helping participants, aged 15 to 19, learn about the principles of good sportsmanship and ethics, develop leadership skills, and gain greater understanding and respect for multiple cultures.
