Rider Hedges times it right

Fired up by missing out on the All American Road Race title in Maryland, Kris Hedges rode to glory in the District 20 Time Trial Championships.

Hedges, who rides for Team Snow Valley in the US, won the All American title in 2001, his first as a professional rider.

However, despite a good outing he was forced to settle for a pack finish among 18 riders this time around.

With that disappointment still fresh in his mind, Hedges and his team mates took on competitors from Delaware, Maryland, Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia at the weekend.

Fresh off his impressive top 20 placing at the Commonwealth Games Time Trial in Manchester, England, Hedges resigned teammate and D20 favourite Jon Wirsing to the silver medal position.

The pair then hooked up with Russ Langley and Skip Menard to easily win the team time trial by over four minutes on the 40km rolling course in Boonsboro, Maryland.

"I was definitely pleased to take the D20 conference TT especially after last week's road race," said Hedges from the US. "I knew going in it was possible if I had a good ride to make it a close race between Jon Wirsing and myself.

"But the ride was better than expected as I ended up putting about 40 seconds or so between myself and Jon, which is quite a good margin over the 24-plus mile course."
