Robinson Roberts spearheads female challenge

Ashley Robinson Roberts, who has been in Canada on a week long coaching course, spearheads the female challenge at the Wasaga Beach Triathlon on Saturday.

Tri Hedz junior Robinson Roberts will compete in the 16-19 age group as she attempts to qualify for the Bermuda team that will make the trip to the Triathlon World Championships. Robyn Dickinson, who attends school in Canada and is also a member of the Tri Hedz Club, will also be competing in the same category.

Khamari Greaves and Coyatito Smith will lead Bermuda's challenge in the 14-15 age group on Sunday over 400m swim, 15km cycle and 4km run. Justin Collis, Tim Fox and Alex McManus will compete in the 12 to 13 age group over 300m, 12.5km and 3km whilst Dorian Armstrong will participate in the ten to 11 age group over 150m, 7.5km and 2km.

There was disappointment last week for up and coming eight year old David Lunn who was due to compete in the boys eight to nine age group. Lunn broke his collarbone and has had to pull out of the event, although he will accompany the group.

Kaitlin Miller, a Tri Hedz junior, will also be in Canada and will be participating in the junior event.

Accompanying the group will be senior TRex athlete Vanessa Madeiros who will compete on Saturday over 1500m, 40km, 10km. Parent Ian Fox will take part in the Tri-a-Triathlon event on Saturday.

The group will stay on in Canada for a two day coaching camp with Barrie Shepley, one of the country's leading triathlon coaches and will return to Bermuda next Thursday.

Cora Lee Starzomski, another TRex senior triathlete who has qualified for the Bermuda team for the Triathlon World Championships, continues her preparations this Sunday by competing in the prestigious Mrs. T's Chicago Triathlon where she will compete over 1500m, 40km and 10km in a race weekend that attracts over 5,000 triathletes, including a large contingent from the Tri Hedz Club.
