Rugby pair see Sevens action
Two Bermuda players, Jonathan Cassidy and Stuart Thompson, are included in the West Indies Exiles squad that will compete in the Henley International Rugby Sevens tournament in England, starting tomorrow.
The Exiles are being sponsored by local law firm, Conyers Dill and Pearman.
Others in the squad include players from Barbados, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Trinidad and Tobago.
The Henley Sevens has attracted a number of top teams including London Wasps, Northampton Saints, Leicester Tigers and Saracens all from the English Premier League while the British Army, winners of last year's Middlesex Charity Sevens, will also be competing with several of their players hailing from Fiji.
Among the favourites will be a side from Bradford Bulls, leaders of Rugby League's Super League.
However, despite the fierce competition, Cassidy believes the Exiles can hold their own.
"We are determined that we give a good representation both on the field and off," he said. "The team performed so well at the recent Cayman Island Sevens that it was a shame they were narrowly beaten by an impressive Jamaican team in the Plate final."
Cassidy noted how the Exiles had also impressed at the Robert Walters Sevens tournament last May when they reached the Plate semi-finals. On that occasion they beat both the New Zealand Maori Wanderers and the Pacific Islanders, teams that included a number of international players from the South Pacific.
