Rugby World Cup: Australia 55, Fiji 12

MONTPELLIER, France (AP) - Drew Mitchell scored three tries and Matt Giteau contributed 27 points in a 55-12 victory over Fiji on Sunday as the Wallabies maintained their record of always reaching the Rugby World Cup quarterfinals.

Giteau scored two of Australia's seven tries and kicked 4 conversions and 3 penalties at La Mosson stadium as Australia guaranteed top spot in Group B so that it will play its quarterfinal in Marseille against either England or Tonga.

Adam Ashley-Cooper and Stephen Hoiles crossed the Fijian line while Berrick Barnes, playing flyhalf in the absence of the injured Stephen Larkham, kicked a drop goal.

Winger Isoa Neivua replied for Fiji with his team already 22-0 down just before halftime and back row Aca Ratuva scored a second try early in the second half.

Despite the loss, Fiji, which rested 11 of its regular starters, can also reach the quarterfinal by beating Wales in Nantes Sept. 29. The two teams are level on 10 points, five behind Australia.
