Saltus unbeaten on Canada tour
Saltus Grammar School's senior football team ended their annual tour of Canada on a winning note over the weekend, maintaining a perfect record for their visit with an 8-0 thumping of Ridley College.
Marquel Waldron and Ziggy Stoneham both netted twice with Jason Smith, Terryn Fray and Lorin Tannock each grabbing a goal apiece. An own goal from a Smith shot wrapped up the convincing win.
On Saturday morning, Saltus were made to work hard against a St Andrews team before emerging convincing 7-1 winners.
They led 2-0 at half-time, courtesy of goals from Waldron and Lozendro Symonds. However, a Smith goal just after the interval opened the floodgates and with a second goal from Symonds and tallies from Kijaun Wilkinson, Giovan Logie, and an own goal, the Bermuda school eased to victory. A late penalty gave the home side some consolation.
Saltus then rushed across Toronto to play Oakville FC in the afternoon. An early barrage on the Saltus goal was dealt with well by Clyde Darrell in goal and a solid defence of Kijaun Wilkinson, Patrick Dill, Thomas Godfrey and Jez Burrows.
And as they weathered the storm, the Saltus midfield started to take control, Stoneham and Smith giving the visitors a 2-0 half-time lead.
Saltus then dominated the second half, and goals from Waldron and a 25-yarder from Dante Leverock wrapped up a 4-0 victory.
